I entered the Navy in 1981, at the age of 17.  I was medically discharged 6 years later and have learned the plight of the average Veteran from my own struggles with DVA.  I became a Veterans' advocate because I saw how hard it is to get into the system.  Once there, the care tends to be for the most part good, but I feel the struggle to get initial care is an everyday war when the service member returns home.  I worked for DVA from 1999 to 2003 when I medically retired due to service connected conditions.  I am still battling the claims system and expect that will not change any time soon, but hope that my efforts will have some impact for future veterans.  I currently attend community college with plans to transfer to a graduate program next year.  I am studying business with a minor in law.  My objective is to utilize what I learn to keep watch on DVA and advocate for the rights of Veteran's.
