I was born in the South Bronx in 1946. I attended the High School of Performing Arts, in New York City. I was drafted at the age of 19. After Six months of training as an infantryman, I was assigned to long range reconnaissance LRRP with HHC 3rd Brigade of the 25th Infantry Division in Pleiku .
I was wounded in action and sent to Camp Zama, an Army Hospital in Japan. I received the Purple Heart, went back to Viet Nam and served until I came down with Malaria and was evacuated back to Valley Forge Army Hospital in the States. After being discharged in 1968, I met the love of my life and started a family I have two daughters and three grandsons.
It took me 34 years to find out about the VA and the fact that I have been suffering from PTSD. Since being diagnosed with PTSD I made a pledge to help other veterans learn about their benefits and filing claims.
I am now a VSO with the DAV and the VFW .I am a life member of both the DAV and the Military Order of the Purple Heart and a member of the VFW. My goal is to secure full funding for the VA, and to reduce the time it takes veterans to secure their just compensation. My motto is “They called, we went, now we are back.” Those who did not serve and are so quick to send other peoples sons and daughters to war must know we veterans are the price of war, not the bullets or Halliburton. |
