Colonel Romy Monteyro

  • Served in the U.S. Navy as a Journalist from Oct 1959 to Oct 1963.  Honorably discharged.
     
  • Returned to the Philippines in Oct 1963 and went back to college using GI Bill.  Resumed old position of Copy Editor at the Philippines Herald, a major daily published in English in Manila. Graduated from the Lyceum of the Philippines School of Journalism in May 1971.
     
  • Continued working for the Philippines Herald until it was shut down by then President Ferdinand Marcos after he declared martial law in Sep 1972.  Then was employed at Clark U.S. Air Force Base in Angeles City, Pampanga, as Information Specialist
     
  • Drafted into the Philippine Army in May 1974 and retired in June 1995 as a full Colonel.  Last posting was Commander, Psychological Operations, Civil Relations Command, Armed Forces of the Philippines.  Returned to the U.S. in 1995 and subsequently naturalized as a U.S. citizen by virtue of previous honorable service in the U.S. Navy.
     
  • Currently a columnist for the Philippine Mabuhay News, a Filipino-American bi- weekly broadsheet published in National City, San Diego County, California.  Concurrently Adviser and Official Spokesman, Filipino World War II Veterans Federation of San Diego County (since 1996).
